Fundamental Environmental Contextual Metrics Dashboard
This project uses data from oceanographic and atmospheric measurement programs to develop six fundamental environmental metrics and compare current status to historical values. The metrics are available on a web-based dashboard.
Avian Habitat Suitability Models for Puget Sound Estuary Birds
Prioritization of Contaminants of Emerging Concern
This project prioritizes contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) for monitoring efforts and management responses. Hundreds of CECs such as pharmaceuticals, plasticizers, and pesticides have been found in Puget Sound.
Juvenile Salmonid Monitoring in Large Puget Sound Rivers
Juvenile salmonid monitoring is a key part of understanding freshwater productivity and marine survival of Chinook salmon. For this project, tribal and state smolt trap operators helped identify trends in Chinook salmon abundance and productivity across multiple rivers in Puget Sound.
Birds Vital Sign, Abundance of marine and terrestrial birds indicator
This project includes processing annual mid-winter WDFW PSAMP seabird and waterfowl survey flight data; marine and terrestrial bird indicator updates; winter birds web map; Pigeon Guillemot citizen science data gathering, storage and summary tools.
Drinking Water Vital Sign indicator
Economic Vitality Vital Sign indicators
This project includes data compilation and analysis, annual update for three economic indicators in 2022, and Vital Sign key messages.
Outdoor Activities Vital Sign, Condition of swimming beaches indicator
This project included monitoring, data compilation, analyses, and reporting at Puget Sound marine beaches for fecal indicator bacteria, and communication to the public when a risk of disease was identified.
Shoreline Armor Vital Sign, indicator of new and removed armor
This project included HPA-based data compilation; Vital Sign indicator reporting for 2019 and 2020; and a Vital Sign decadal summary report and final data product.
Subjective human wellbeing indicators
Toxics in Fish Vital Sign, Contaminants in juvenile salmon indicator
This project assessed compatibility of historical data and assessed time trends. The project included an indicator update for contaminants in juvenile salmon and a draft manuscript and communication product.
2019 Recommendations for a Puget Sound Estuary Avian Monitoring Strategy
The PSEMP Marine Birds Work Group convened a wide cross-section of bird monitoring groups to develop a common framework for monitoring birds.
2018 SALISH SEA TOXICS MONITORING SYNTHESIS
A 2019 report from the Puget Sound Ecosystem Monitoring Program presents an overview of selected recent monitoring and research activities focused on toxic contaminants in the Salish Sea.
Puget Sound Ecosystem Monitoring Strategic Plan
This plan includes a goal for PSEMP to convene subject matter experts to communicate scientific information from different parts of the ecosystem to address key management and science questions for recovery of the ecosystem.
Shoreline Monitoring Toolbox
This toolbox emphasizes methods that are simple and affordable, and that can be used for monitoring.
