YMCA Earth Service Corps

  • Description: This YMCA program partners with middle and high school-aged youth in the greater Seattle area to provide environmental education and leadership training through youth-led, hands-on stewardship projects. The program focuses on climate justice, water quality, waste streams, and food systems, among many other topics.

Dirt Corps

  • Description: This organization operates in South Seattle and is focused on providing paid workforce development programs to youth and adults on topics including green infrastructure, ecological restoration, and urban forestry. They also host volunteer events, and provide professional crew services.

King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps

  • Website: King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps
  • Description: Offers a paid summer internship program that teaches youth about conservation. Their projects mostly focus on restoration.

Pierce County‘s Environmental Education Program

  • Website: Environmental Education | Pierce County, WA - Official Website
  • Description: This program provides free sustainability-focused classes to the community, supports environmental education for K-12 students and teachers, and offers youth programming and networking opportunities. Educational areas include food waste, gardening, and composting, waste reduction and recycling, and more. Their Earth Matters Newsletter is also a great resource to learn new tools and tips for the waste reduction and recycling.

Storming the Sound Conference

  • Website: Storming the Sound - Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators
  • Description: “Storming the Sound is a conference for environmental educators in the north Puget Sound region, including the counties of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island, Jefferson and San Juan. Every January, teachers, environmental organizations and students gather to share their interest and expertise in environmental education (source: website home page). This event tackles climate justice, Puget Sound issues, and more."

Puget Sound Partnership's Education subject matter expert group for the Action Agenda

  • Description: A semi-official group that is charged with implementing the Puget Sound Partnership's Education strategy for the Action Agenda.

Groups working to measure stormwater temperature (for the purpose of combatting urban heat islands):

Stormwater Action Monitoring (SAM) Stormwater Characterization

  • Website: Characterization of Stormwater Transport of Contaminants of Emerging Concern
  • Description: Led by the City of Tacoma, collaborators across Western Washington are monitoring 16 sites to determine their differences according to their land uses (industrial, commercial, residential). Stormwater temperature is monitored continuously at each site. Additionally, stormwater and stormwater sediment samples are collected for analysis of several contaminants.

  • Description: This interactive map shows areas serviced by Washington State public water systems. You can use this tool to search any address and find out what utility controls water service for that area.

Find Watershed Managers and Regulators:

Washington State Department of Ecology Watershed Look-Up Tool

  • Website: Watershed Lookup Tool
  • Description: This interactive map shows watersheds, otherwise known as Water Resource Inventory Areas across Washington State. You can use this tool to search any address and find out what watershed it is a part of. By clicking on a watershed boundary, you can learn more about information like the regional rules, water availability limits, and local managing entities for that area.

Kitsap Public Utility Distrcit

  • Description: Find information and resources about drinking water provided to Kitsap County residents, including water quality reports and information about how Kitsap County manages water resources.
